This is a first stab, a stake in the sand. Feel free to disagree and update, but please, post your reasons when you make changes. --risser 06:40, 13 March 2006 (PST)

It's very complete and thorough, I'll give it that :). I don't see anything I disagree with, and much of it is what I thought was common sense. However, I'm quite sure not everyone's brain works the same way mine does. It seems to account for all of Mediawiki's little quirks and make sure things are sorted accurately. The only part I even question is the bit about if it's a band named for a primary membeer. (Jimi Hendrix Experience, Steve Miller Band, etc...) It seems a little weird to me to rearrange those names. However, it does make sense to sort them close to the artist their named for, so... whatever the majority thinks is best. --Nanenj 06:58, 13 March 2006 (PST)
I completely agree. But then you get things like Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five, or Captain Beefheart and Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, or Les McCann, Les McCann Ltd, The Les McCann Trio, Les McCann and His Orchestra, etc.etc. I think in these instances it makes sense to group all these with or near the 'primary' artist. Also, when I go to file a CD, I always think of Steve Miller Band as "Steve Miller" anyway, completely overlooking the "Band" part, and thus, I'd never expect it under "S". Anyway, as I said, it's not perfect, but I think it's the most effective solution, though I'm open to something more useful. --risser 07:02, 13 March 2006 (PST)
